Lake Weeroona in Bendigo is a man‑made lake created in the late 19th century, transforming a former mining site into one of the city’s most beloved public reserves.
Bendigo’s mayor at the time, Duggall McDougall, proposed turning it into a recreational lake. In 1878, the project was commissioned under William Guilfoyle, the renowned landscape gardener and director of the Melbourne Botanic Gardens.
